- Daily Breakfast for Slum Children
New Year 2022, at the Sadhu Vaswani Mission, set in on the note of “sevas seeped in love”. In adherence to the tenets of Dada J.P. Vaswani – “serve as many as you can, in as many as ways as you can”, the Mission started yet another initiative of serving breakfast to children in the Yerwada locality of Pune. The Mission was approached by social workers who have been carrying out developmental work and have undertaken the cause of children residing in the Yerwada area. Every morning, police cadets train the children in many skills. The social workers realised the need for a healthy breakfast and knew of the many service activities carried out by the Mission and therefore reached out to us. Following a survey, the Mission began the seva of distributing breakfast to 200 children including volunteers in Yerwada. The children come from the slums; some are orphans, some are single-parent children, while the parents of some are daily wagers with minimal earning. A wholesome meal, therefore, becomes difficult for them. Besides, following physical activity and given that the children are in their growing years, they have a good appetite; it, therefore, is necessary that the kids get the meal they deserve. The idea is to nourish the mind along with the body. While they have physical activities, we realised how important a meal is in shaping the mind of a child. As the saying goes, “jaisa ann, vesa mann – as is the food, so is the mind”, the Mission wished to join the cause of the true development of the child. The children are assembled at a recreation center made available for this purpose. The children are between the age of 4-18 years and are overjoyed to have a new menu on their plate every day! They pray before their meals and it is these small deeds that go a long way in character building. The menu is different for each day such as poha, upma, subji pav, and more. It is cooked at the Mission’s Pimpri Center and delivered to the distribution area. 4-5 volunteers of the Mission carry out the seva. The sevas began on 24th January 2022 and is an ongoing seva and will continue till necessary.

56 years ago, on 16th January 1966, Sadhu Vaswani passed on. His cremation was done on 17th January, at the spot where his Samadhi stands now in Sadhu Vaswani Mission. Since then, each year, the Mission observes the two dates with prayers, recitations from scriptures, satsangs, sevas and recorded talks of Sadhu Vaswani and his disciple Dada J.P. Vaswani, who later led the Mission to greater heights. Didi Krishna Kumari, the current head of the Mission, in her talk, spoke of her association with Sadhu Vaswani and how at the young age of three, she came in his contact. - Winter 2021 Sevas by Sadhu Vaswani Mission
December 11 , 2021 Pune Through midnights on the streets of Pune Volunteers see sorry sight of people covered in jute sacks Sadhu Vaswani Mission helps make winters warmer for the needy & animals too with blankets, chaddars & sweaters Decembers in Pune are a sight to behold! With the mornings enveloping the city in a thick misty fog and a wintry breeze blowing all day; the city wears an all new look. Winter wears are out from the closet and it’s time to don the trendiest warm clothes. But is it as easy for the poor and needy, one wonders… sleeping on the streets, living in tiny hutments, and a harsh winter, a bad combination indeed! 5th December 2021, Sadhu Vaswani Mission Pune, in an immediate response to the strikingly dropping mercury levels in the city started its winter sevas. “Pune, in almost a decade, has not seen such winters. As we thought of our poor and needy brothers and sisters, we were deeply concerned at the very thought of how they must be enduring such temperatures. With winters and the basic lack of winter wear claiming countless lives everywhere, we immediately set out to distribute blankets,” said a volunteer. The effort was spontaneous and distribution unplanned; the volunteers left at 10 pm in the night, carried out the distribution and returned at 2AM the next morning. They drove past the areas of Wanowrie, Hadapsar, Fatima Nagar, Solapur Road and draped the street-dwellers with blankets. “We spotted the footpath-dwellers and saw that some had covered themselves with jute sacks; it was a sorry sight to witness. When we covered them with the blankets, they were grateful beyond words. The effort was not only timely but much-needed. Another experience we had was of a man living in a dark hut in a secluded place. When we saw him we realised he was not only poor but was also handicapped and living all by himself; it was pitiable and sad. We gave him a blanket and his gratitude showed in the way he thanked us with folded hands,” added the volunteer. On this day, volunteers distributed 100 blankets to the poor and needy. The effort will continue and is being carried out expeditiously to complete the distribution before the winter’s wane. In a similar effort, on 4th December 2021 the Mission distributed sweaters to children at an orphanage in Hadapsar. “The Mission carries out blanket distribution every year, however, this year adding on to it, the Mission distributed sweaters to children. We regularly distribute joy packets at the orphanage and saw that while the kids have blankets to stay warm at night, they have no warm clothes for the day. We coordinated with the care-takers and organised a sweater distribution.” The volunteers took down the age-wise measurements of the children to avoid any ill-fitting sweaters. On this day, the Mission distributed 40 sweaters to children aged between 5-15 years. In addition to and in adherence to the teachings of the Great Masters, the voiceless animals too were given the warmth of blankets coupled with love. Untimely rains and bitter winters have multiplied the number of sick cases of animals coming to Mission Possible Animal Shelter each night. With each day getting colder and the inability to protect them growing by the day; the uncertainty of their survival troubled the shelter owners. Knowing their plight, on 30th November 2021, the Mission volunteers immediately set out with solapuri chaddars and blankets. “The need was critical and the help was deeply appreciated by the shelter,” shared a volunteer. On this day, 200 solapuri chaddars and 300 blankets were distributed at the Saswad Mission Possible shelter and 200 solapuri chaddars and 200 blankets were distributed at the Shankarshet Road, Mission Possible animal shelter. Likewise, in the hilly regions of Khandala, similar to each year, on 4th December 2021, the Mission distributed 168 ration kits and 336 blankets (2 per family). The winter sevas by the Mission are off to a great start!

- Inauguration of renovated Dental Department at Inlaks & Budhrani Hospital Pune
October 19 , 2021 Pune Sadhu Vaswani Mission’s healthcare institute, Inlaks & Budhrani Hospital inaugurated a renovated and internally equipped ‘Dental Department’. The inaugural function was marked by the presence of Didi Krishna Kumari, Sadhu Vaswani Mission, eminent doctors & Life Members and Committee Members of the Sadhu Vaswani Mission. The event began with the lighting of the sacred havan by Didi Krishna, reading of a vachan from the Nuri Granth, performing of an aarti, and recitation of prayers. Addressing the doctors at the event, she said, “Each of our doctors must serve every patient with humility and create smiles. Each doctor should wear a crown of humility and serve every patient as a picture of God.” The invitees were then taken on a tour of the dental department. Dr. Chandra B Ahuja, M.DS (Prosthodontists & Oral Implantologist) speaking about the facilities now available said, “The new department is of international standards and we have added several types of equipment to our facility. We now have an OPG Machine – used for Fullmark x-rays, and Advanced Dental Machine for taking intra-oral x-rays. We additionally offer specialised services in smile design, implants, orthodontic treatment (straightening or moving teeth for alignment), aesthetic dentistry, botox, dimple creations, and teeth whitening among others.” “We also work on Maxillofacial Prosthetics wherein we rehabilitate patients, who have suffered the loss of teeth post oral cancer, jaw augmentation, and more. The department also has a Child Dental Specialist carrying out both minor and major surgeries. Currently, the Dental Department has 3 in-house doctors and 10 specialised visiting doctors.” added Dr. Chandra. The doctors and patient seating area has also seen a facelift. There are now 5 cubicles for doctors with one dedicated to surgical procedures. The patient seating area is well-planned and has a television showcasing the services offered at the Dental Department. Likewise, the Department strictly adheres to sterilisation protocols of equipment after each consultation. “When offering treatment, we apprise the patient of the line of treatment. At times when it comes to our observation that the patient consumes or chews tobacco, we counsel them on the hazards of it, as well. We also give them the procedure for post-surgical care both verbally and through sharing of pamphlets,” she adds. “The revamped Dental Department is a milestone for the Hospital. It has taken 33-long years for us to bring the Dental Department at par with international treatment and equipment. Right from the system of allocating appointments, we have upgraded ourselves. Each patient now is sent an automated message on the day of the appointment. Surgeries can now be carried out in-house. However, the most significant feature is that we are extremely economical in comparison to the dental costs prevailing in the market,” said Dr. Rhea Punjabi, Medical Superintendent, Inlaks & Budhrani Hospital. Concluding, Dr. Ahuja, advised, “Unlike other health aspects, the dental aspect is often ignored. It is only when a major concern arises that patients visit the dentist. I would advise that every person must schedule a dental appointment at least once in six months to help identify any underlying problem. This habit can go a long way in avoiding major surgeries.” Details of Dental Department at Inlaks & Budhrani Hospital – Dental Department Contact: 020 - 66099780/81 – Timings – Monday-Saturday: 9AM to 7PM – Timings - Sunday: 9AM to 5PM

- Crossing the Rivers, Traversing Mountains, Sadhu Vaswani Mission Serves Remote Villages!
Seva by Boat: Crossing the Rivers, Traversing Mountains, Sadhu Vaswani Mission Serves Remote Villages! 12th October 2021, as early as 06:30 am, there was a silent buzz in the premises of Sadhu Vaswani Mission, Pune. Volunteers from across the city were arriving at the Mission. Greeting each other with a Dada Shyam, they were preparing for a day-long journey to Tapola, Satara District where 65 hopeful families were waiting for ration kits to meet their hunger needs. A first-of-a-kind ration kits seva by boat, the Mission volunteers made an effort to travel all the way to the remote village, cross rivers, and save the villagers the trouble of travelling. Soon, 12 volunteers with a clarion call of ‘Jo bole So Nihal, Sat Sri Akal,’ began the journey. Traversing through the serpentine ghats of Satara District, crossing the misty lanes, they finally reached Tapola. But the needy brethren were still away. Joined by 3 more local volunteers with one being a little child enthusiastic to serve, 15 volunteers now boarded a motorboat; the ration kits too were unloaded into another boat. Both set sailing to reach the other side of the water body where the villagers were waiting. Disembarking and unloading the ration kits once again, the distribution began immediately. One after the other, the names on the list were called out and with joy, gratitude, and relief, the villagers collected ration kits for their families. “We are immensely grateful for the ration kits, it is indeed a timely help,” said a recipient. “The villagers are teary-eyed when we reach out to them. The situation is not yet perfectly normal and this helps them sustain. We carry out surveys frequently and share the list of needy families with the Mission. Once the list reaches them, we begin the travel preparations here while the volunteers at the Mission carry out the packing of ration kits. a day or two in advance we inform the recipients to gather at a distribution location and serve them,” said the local volunteer who helps organise the sevas. On this day, ration kits were distributed to 65 needy families and 50 joy packets were given to little ones. The day also marked the Sacred Dada Yagna. The idea is not to carry out a mere distribution but to pour in love, empathy, and devotion. Helping them lift the ration kit, walking the elderly to a safe standing, giving them hope, restoring faith in humanity, and bringing a smile to little ones; that too is the purpose of these sevas.

Vaswani’s 103rd birthday, we had taken the measurements of limbs for the patients. Once the prosthetics were ready, 26th September, 2021 we carried out the distribution. The seva catered to the limbless brothers, sisters, and children from in and around Pune,” said a hospital official. The official shared an incident from the sevas and said, “We had a patient who had lost both his arms and once he was fitted with the prosthetics, he was skeptical. But we encouraged him to use the movable thumb and carry the utilities provided by the Mission with his new arms. When he lifted the bag, his eyes had a new spark and he was thoroughly happy. He also came forward and shook hands with the team. Looking at him, the others in the queue too began using their limbs.” “In yet another instance, was a child of hardly 7-8 with no arms and legs amputed. He was gently made to stand on his feet. He was terrified and the moment he stood on his feet, the fear transformed into happiness; it was a sight to behold!”added the official. Starting at 9 am in the morning, the seva was completed by 2 pm. The patients and their relatives were served chole pav. The Mission also gifted them a blanket, a Sholapuri chaddar, 2 towels, and 2 napkins. 73 patients benefited from the seva and ably walked back home carrying their utilities with a new-found resolve to live a complete life.
