The Sadhu Vaswani College of Nursing continues the solemn tradition of old – The Lamp Lighting Ceremony – that symbolizes the passing of knowledge and igniting the souls of the budding nurses with the ideals of compassion and care. It is held every year at SVCON for the new batch of first year students who are essentially being initiated into the field of nursing.
It was held on the 18th of November in the sacred hall of the Gita Mandir at the Sadhu Vaswani Mission, Pune.
Rev. Dada also took time out to grace and bless the occasion. The proceedings started with prayers, and a thought taken from the Noori Granth (a collection of songs and hymns by Sadhu Vaswani).
The song of the Lady with the Lamp, Florence Nightingale, “O, she comes” sung by the students reminded of the legendary woman, the founder of nursing, who taught the world the importance of compassion and selfless service.
The Principal of SVCON, Lt. Col. (Mrs.) Manonmani Venkat, read out the Annual Report of the present 104 nursing students of the college. Out of the 30 First Year students of SVCON, three are sponsored by the company – Lexi pens and one by the Mission itself.
Then the Principal took the stage to start off the tradition of lamp lighting – with a lit candle and two teachers lighted their candles from her. Each student then came forward with a candle and lit it from the teachers as a symbol of that light.
