From January 2004 to April 2004 a total of 14 Heart Surgeries were performed on individuals who were in dire need of this procedure and had very little or negligible financial resources at their disposal. The Mission spent a total of Rs.680,779/- on these procedures. The procedures ranged from:
Ballooning: This involves increasing the area of Mitral Valve. Four such surgeries were performed. All four patients were females ranging in age group from 18 to 55 years.
Pacemaker: This involves increasing the rate of heartbeat by using external battery. This helps the patients with slow heartbeat rate. A 43-year old housewife was the sole beneficiary of this treatment.
BT Shunt: Operating procedure for congenital heart disease. A ten month old baby boy underwent this surgical procedure and is doing very well now.
PDA Closure: Closure of abnormal connection between the two blood vessels from Lungs to heart. Three persons underwent this procedure -- two girls: one 9 years and the other only 8 years as also a 12-month old baby boy!
VSD Closure: Closure of hole present in the heart. The said procedure was performed on a 6-month old baby girl.
CABG: By pass. Two such surgeries were performed: both on males. One 37-year old and the other 53-year old.
Angioplasty: Placement of spring or stent. The procedure was successfully performed on a 54 year old male.
