Vaswani's 39 th Mahayagna Celebrations,
Dada
J.P. Vaswani's Hindi Talk, January 16, 2005
On
this 39 th Mahayagna ( Annniversary ) day of Sadhu Vaswani,
thousands of devotees gathered with gratitude in their hearts,
to pay homage to their Master. Gratitude because each one
present has experienced the kindling of the light by the Master's
touch, dispelling the darkness within them. This continues
to occur till today even though Sadhu Vaswani is no longer
physically present, for his ‘touch' is embodied in his teachings
which shall continue to prevail.
On
this holy day, the Mission reinstated and reinforced the light
kindled by its Master, spreading it in the form of medical
and educational institutions, service of the poor and needy,
bhajans and kirtan . This light has even
been able to penetrate through some of the despair and destruction
of the Tsunami and brought a ray of hope and light in the
lives of those who are suffering from it.
Dada
J.P. Vaswani, a close devotee and nephew of Sadhu Vaswani,
yearningly recollects the day, 14 th Jan, 1966, which was
the day of Sankrant , when Sadhu Vaswani, who was bed-ridden,
was brought in the cold, winter sunshine under a tree at the
Sadhu Vaswani Mission. There he saw a leper couple who required
Rs 15 to return to their village. Sadhu Vaswani gave them
Rs 25 and bid farewell to the thrilled couple.
On
returning to his room, Sadhu Vaswani asked that only 2 of
each type of clothing should be kept for him, and the rest
distributed among the poor immediately. Two messages were
conveyed then, which nobody realized – one that the Master
was to leave the body in two days – second – one should give,
for to give is to truly live. Happiness lies in sharing, not
in hoarding.
Everything
in Nature gives, only man continues to take. We should give
with total detachment and renunciation with the feeling that
nothing belongs to us – as Krishna arpanam . If we
have nothing to give, then at least give a smile, share some
sweet words. The primary teaching of satsanga is
to proceed on the path of sacrifice by first giving up one's
ahankara or ego.
As
a boy, Sadhu Vaswani would clap with joy, when the string
of his kite would get cut while he was flying it. To him the
string represented desires which bind us to this earth. When
these strings are snapped, we, like the kites, are free to
fly to the Divine.
Dada
narrated the example of the very learned Govind Walekar ,
who on losing his dutiful and loving wife, was asked by his
mother to remarry. He obeyed her, but chose the blind, motherless
daughter of a poor pandit and proceeded to serve
her for the rest of his life.
It
is this total sacrifice and giving which is required to proceed
on the spiritual path. To succeed in any earthly endeavour
, there is so much required of us. For attaining the Divine
we need to be like the thread, whose every strand is neatly
concentrated in a point in order to go through the eye of
the needle.
This
human birth is for us to break our bondage and be able to
dwell in any place, under any condition, without a word of
complaint.
Sadhu
Vaswani had said – I have but one tongue, but even if I had
a million, I would but utter this one word ‘Give'.
With
this thought to open our hearts and with the words “ Hari
Bol ” ringing in our ears, Dada left behind him a sea of love-filled
faces.
