Hindi Lecture By Dada J.P Vaswani at the Sadhu Vaswani Mission on 13-11-2005.

It was most appropriate that in his talk, prior to the birthdays of Guru Nanak and his Master, Sadhu T.L.Vaswani, Dada J.P.Vaswani spoke about the Guru, the topic being, “Selling your mind to the Guru.”

On the 126th Birthday celebrations of Sadhu Vaswani, Dada narrated how Sadhu Vaswani was born on the holy day of Kartik Ekadashi at 5:00 a.m., probably with the message for all to awake and cognise one’s true self.

Man, on emerging from the darkness of the womb, is engulfed by the darkness of Maya or the illusory.  It is only the Guru who can bestow true light and knowledge, protecting us at every step.

The Sikh Guru, Arjan Dev said – surrender completely to the Guru; walk the way of obedience.  Dada illustrated this with several incidences from the lives of Holy ones, simply but inspiringly.  Sant Kabir after placing something on his head, began looking for it all over the house, in broad day light.  On failing to find it, he asked his wife to light twelve lamps to look for it.  Even though it was day time and she could see it, she obeyed implicitly.  Bhai Ladha, in following the dictates of his Guru Arjan Dev, blackened his face, wore a garland of old shoes, and went all over the town on a donkey, in order to obtain forgiveness for two of the Guru’s errant devotees, Satta, and Balwant.  King Janaka, through the promise that he gave to Rishi Ashtavakra and his obedience to him, was able to go into Samadhi and understand the true meaning of life.  Bhai Manjh – a wealthy zamindar, went through tremendous trials and tribulations set by his Guru and even overcame further vicissitudes of life when he became a pauper, by his total faith in and utter obedience of his Guru’s wishes.

In today’s times, when everything material is gaining so much importance, when we are filled with pride for wealth, status, knowledge and beauty, we should approach the Guru in all humility for true wealth. Just as Naradmuni did of Lord Narain, by asking for pure love and devotion for Him; not to get enmeshed in Maya and not to even forget Him.  We should only ask saints for strength to face the vicissitudes of life.

As Lord Krishna says our senses should be under the control of the mind, which should be subservient to the intellect or Buddhi, which should be totally under the influence of the ever-pure Atma.  But usually the senses in running after the sense-objects, are followed by the mind and intellect.  Hence the mind should be handed over to the Guru.  For that we need to work hard, do a lot of Sadhana.

In these traumatic times, Dada’s words on the Guru’s ability in helping to face all problems, ignited faith and belief in the thousands who were present; filling many with hope and a deep longing for the Guru.
