Dada Keeps His Appointment with his Devotees
Over 3000 devotees who had gathered at the Sadhu Vaswani Mission on the eve of the 40th Mahayagna of Pune’s own saint, Sadhu Vaswani, were delighted to have a darshan of their much loved guru and spiritual leader, Dada J P Vaswani, and to listen to his words of wisdom, blessing and grace. What made Dada’s Hindi discourse particularly special on this occasion was the fact that he has been in considerable pain due to a muscle pull and confined to bed for over 20 days. It was thought that Dada might not be able to leave his room and risk the strain of coming down to the Satsang Hall to meet his devotees and face the rigour of a public discourse so soon after his ailment. But Dada had promised his devoted disciples that he would keep his date with them – and meet them he did, against all odds, keeping his appointment with them even as he had promised.
The reaction of the devotees was ecstatic. Some were profoundly moved to see their beloved Dada after a long gap; tears of joy and relief were shed; others cheered and smiled; everyone was thrilled to see their beloved Dada back in their midst.
Dada’s speech resolved around the idea that we have been sent here, to this beautiful earth, not to amass wealth and material treasures, but to accumulate the treasures of the spirit. This can be done by communion with the Lord, utterance of His Name Divine and what is perhaps even more dear to Him – selfless service of the lowly and the downtrodden. It is this treasure that will stand us in good stead when we move over to the life beyond, Dada emphasised. It is this wealth that we will carry with us when we move towards our eternal home. Those of us who live in palaces and amid pleasures on earth, will be relegated to the slums of the heaven-world, Dada pointed out, if we are not rich in spiritual wealth. Therefore Dada urged the people to keep their daily appointment with God, to utter the Name Divine as often as they could – and to spend the wealth of this world in service of the suffering ones so that they could accumulate the treasure that is everlasting.
