ANNUAL SPORTS MEET 16th DECEMBER 2005

ST. MIRA’S PRIMARY SCHOOL

It was on the 16th of December that parents, teachers and students witnessed yet another wonderful event conducted on the school campus. It was the Sports Day which began punctually at 9 a.m. and closed at 11 a.m.

The Chief Guest, Mr. Shantanu Datta, President Editor of the Indian Express Pune, was welcomed by a guard of honour by tribes of the North Easteran part of India (students of standard II). This was only after he paid respects to our Revered Founder Sadhu T.L. Vaswani at the sacred Samadhi. While the holy lamp was lit, the Ganesh Vandana was sung.

The March Past began with thorough discipline by students of the 4 houses namely, Jhansi Ki Rani, Kasturba, Sita and Draupadi Houses. The Head Girl Unmesha Kale administrated the oath and the welcome speech was given by Kshitija Patwardhan.

The finals of the track events of flat races and the fancy races were held on this day. The heats i.e. semi finals and selections were made during the previous week on the school campus itself. In fact the entire month has been a time of activity in the campus when the little ones of Shanti Vidhya Mandir and the primary school have been practicing for their event after the Noori Utsar.

Following were the fancy races:

Std I      – A Run to the Green Grocer.

Std II    – Co-ordinated Balancing.

Std III                – Overcoming Barriers.

Std IV                – A dribbling run away.

The P.T. displays lezim, pyramids and Karate performance were mind blowing. Displays for Std I was Balloons in the Air which gave the message of peace. Std II showed little bamboo stunts giving the message of unity (of the tribe). Std III a Bevy of colours depicting unity in diversity. Students of Std IV put up lezim and pyramids which are exercises to co-ordinate the mind and body.

The Chief Guest Mr. Shantanu Datta spoke few words on how much he recalled his days as a student and appreciated the work of the staff and parents for such a fantastic event conducted today. He was highly impressed by the high standard the school held. It in fact it reminded him of the Olympics.

After the prize distribution ceremony, Mrs. Nimbalkar expressed thanks to the gathering. The National Anthem was a mark to conclude the programme. The guests were refreshed with refreshments and a day of wonderful memory to walk with.

The campus is not going to be quite for too long. The parents and staff are already heading towards preparing the students for the Fancy Dress Competition on Monday 19.12.05 and Tuesday 20.12.05 and to welcome Santa Clause at the Christmas party on 22nd December.
